Hi all! I am new to the board and am looking forward to contributing!

I grew up fishing in the marsh and offshore in Louisiana every summer in Grand Isle and Port Fourchon. How is fishing in Freeport compared to Louisiana? I am seriously considering buying a 20 to 22 bay boat or even an offshore boat that I would take down to Freeport 5 or 6 times a year and maybe take a trip or two to Louisiana each year. Plus I may even use it in the lakes a few times a year.

I live in Dallas and am trying to justify the purchase. Do any of you that live in North Texas have bay boats or offshore boats make the trip down? Do you haul it down each time or store it down there? Any recommendations on brands / types of boats to buy? Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, can any of you all chime in regarding how far offshore you have to go to catch mahi mahi, amberjack, tuna, and marlin? How is the fishing for grey snapper, kings, and grouper?

Fishing out of Freeport is just as productive as Venice if you know where to go. But in Venice the ride to deepwater is generally a lot shorter. If I had the money and choice then I would pick Venice even if the drive to get to the boat is farther.
