I got to fish with Denny Brauer a few weeks ago on Amistad. He has still been catching some absolute giants out there but he said that most of them are in locations that are almost impossible to fish. We fished lots of grass beds that were close to really deep water. We will see what happens at the platinum that is coming up.

It will come back. Hopefully to it's glory days, but may take a while. For now instead of going fishing to the same spots historically caught a big bag limit you'll have to hunt for the fish and change tactics, time on the water hmmm

Please don't let the 'times' destroy what we all love. Fishing is our common bond. This should be a place of respite for us all!

I'm as guilty as the next guy of becoming adversarial over a fishing topic that is trivial in the big scheme of things. May we all be kinder and gentler with one another.

there have been some great responses. I especially like the repost of banjo minnow that fishnfireman put up there. I have been fishing this lake my whole life and have seen it go thru this before just not while under this much scrutiny and to this degree. we always tend to forget the bad times and focus on the times it was on fire. The difference is when it goes thru these swings in lake levels the fish are much harder to catch, people always think this lake is dead when you cant run inside of 15ft and catch 40 senko fish with little to no effort. We are all struggling to adjust and still manage to put fish in the boat. I will admit at times it gets tough to do, and when that happens I would by lying if I did not admit I miss those days when you only had to work half as hard for a lot better results. Now with that being said my close friend works for the park service as a diver and over the last year has been kind enough to remind me there are still a lot of big fish left in this lake. As always in time the lake will stabilize from the fluctuations the grass will once again grow everywhere and the fish will move up and stack up in easy and predictable places. Anglers will once again start banging 50 60 fish days, the tournament weights will get bigger and run deeper in the field and Amistad will rise back to being respected as a great lake. The cool thing is those of us who have history with this lake, and my great clients have all along enjoyed what most people seem to forget, and that is even when its tough this is still an awesome place to wet a line.

Respectfully,

Jc Gwynne

You wouldn't find them so disrespectful if you knew the whole story. You just think by reading 1 post that someone here is real helpful. Sometimes things aren't as they seem...

True I suppose, I prefer information from guys who don't do that and if you're going to lie then you need proof because you know with the Internet these days people will get the truth.

I have a couple of little grass beds that are holding a few, and some ledges in the mouth of the devils.

On a positive note the record low water levels have had one positive to them. I found 2 deep points close together on the main lake that gave up 17 smallmouth over the course of 11 days. no big ones but did have one around 3 or so. It was surprising for me because I have caught a few out of the main lake over the years, and have heard of some occasionally being caught in the main lake, but never like that. I think the record lows may have forced some out of the rivers and into the main lake.

Respectfully,

Jc Gwynne

I truly hope no one believes you. People tell lies because they have something to gain. I certainly have nothing to gain by telling a lie about how I fish, what I have caught fish on or where I have seen fish on Amistad. I am not a guide so I have nothing to gain there.

I sell a few baits on here which are the best I can build like the ones I have won tournaments on; but I make no money on them if you consider the time that it takes to customize one of them. So I have nothing to gain there and have not fished a tournament in almost a year. I try to show a few pictures of some of the fish caught on the baits in recent years so people understand they still will get the job done.

Some of you guys have called me out on the wording of "Major Tournaments" won. A major tournament to me is winning tournaments with $2,000 or more first place. I have fished a few FLW events on Amistad but did not win, place or show so no misconception there. I stopped fishing them because all the Ranger boat owners filled all the spots.

I book a few drive in trips to Mexico and only charge the expense of the trip. I take the hickey on the wear and tear on the truck and boat; so nothing to gain there except getting to go. If they didn't have a good time and catch plenty of bass I will gladly give them 1/3 of their money back which is my part of the trip.

OH and being under the assumption that the mile marker buoys are placed a mile apart is an honest mistake not a lie.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Nice response Don, now lets get back to talking about fishing instead of bs.. i take most fishing info from anyone with a grain of salt anyway. Were talking bass fishing on the internet, cant have too many facts, then it would be fishy..
