its funny i was fishing last night doing some night bass fishing and i was thinking about this topic, and i thought hmm ill try the one i always felt was underrated and it was my dads fav lure the. He always swore they catch bass when nothing else will. He never fished in the rivers with out one on.



ive caught lots on fish on these cheap little 1.49 H&H spinners and caught this one last night on the bank, saw some large bass blowing up small minnows on the bank tossed it on the edge and caught a nice one.

dont always need 50$ swimbaits or 10$ frogs to catch quality fish.
its no monster it was 6lbs but its always nice to catch a good fish on a cheap lure.
what lures do you find underrated?

I can't find a pic at the moment(nor know exactly how to post one if I did) but Walmart sells a 5 pack of little trout spinners for $6(!) that are well worth the money imo. I've caught crappie on them while using them as jigs, small bass, trout in crystal clear lakes at 11k ft elevation in Colorado, and even perch. The only problem with them is that they're so light that I need to keep my micro-tackle setup with me to use them(which isn't much of a problem at all really). And best of all, they're cheap enough that I can throw them a lot and not get bent out of shape when I get one snagged and lose it, or give a few to guys that want to try them out. I keep some with me anytime I go out really.

I am a big fan of H&H spinners my favorite is the willow and colorado blade combo, caught several bass off of them.

Love my H&H's and keep several color options in the tackle box at a time! I have fished with those things since I was a kid and still seem to always have to reattach the ole double hook. HAHA. Never fails I will put that thing on upside down.

I seem to have much better luck with the double blades like you are using than the willow blade. They willow blade is just a little too big and you have to stretch the lure apart some to get it to spin properly. Anyone else have that problem?

Yep, threw those as a kid and always caught fish.

I caught my first bass and many, many more on a H&H, But I've also caught just about everything that swims on a Beetle Spin.

On a national scale, Grande Bass is way underrated.

Here in Texas they are well known, but if you travel across the borders you will have a hard time finding very many people who have heard of the company.

A simple jighead (often unpainted) and curly tail (2-3") will produce an amazing amount of fish - sunfish, crappie, black bass, striped fish......sometimes a "go to" for me when I just want to find out what kind of fish are in a body of water.

Wahoo Wingding or other similar line thru tailspinners.... no one uses tailspinners.... and they will catch any fish that is there. Tough to shore fish with but good grief... skipping off the bottom downhill along rip rap or even just swimming in open water... I can't imagine why anyone would shake slabs with such a great alternative as well. big weight, compact minnow body, and big thumping Colorado blade is so fun to fish. and with it being line through, you're tied directly to the fishes lip though only a treble hook and line, great feedback. Grab one and through it instead of a crankbait some time and see what happens!

Otherwise similar to previous mentions... roadrunners, beetlespin/Cajun spin etc are all great. Spoons are generally a fairly underrated lure too. Much like with tail spinners, it's the older lures that lose the limelight and people stop using and buying them. Pretty much just look up more vintage lures and you'll find what worked to catch fish, since back then it was more about catching fish than catching fishermen when it came to the products if you ask me... hell, I am working on making a few baits/lures myself and can tell you some of the ideas I have I feel like even if it didn't work the way I planned or catch fish when/where I thought it would, would still be marketable and sell enough it wouldn't matter. A lot of people choose what they throw during their time on the water based solely on what THEY like, not what catches in which conditions.

Definitely ... worn out more than a couple of these over the years ... and while we are "old schooling" it ... need to mention the Jitterbug! I hardly ever fish at night without having a black one with me.

No telling how many fish I caught out of ponds, creeks and rivers with these three lures. If I could only have one lure, give me the curly tail grub in white.
