Mark gets my support. I had the privilege to fish with him one day many years ago. Great guy and a great guide. He let me fish out of my boat so I could track his trail on the Lowrance. Not everybody will let you do that. I remember we BS'ed more than we fished and had a great time. He showed me where he supposedly caught Ethel and I believe him. I have been back to Fork a dozen times or better and never have fished that spot again. I think I will my next trip.

Well, Mark was at my house today, (we've been friends a long time, as he is a mentor of mine), so I ask him what is the rule that makes him ineligible for induction into the Texas Fishing HOF.
He explains to me that since he makes his living fishing, he is not a contributor? to Texas fishing.

This just doesn't make any sense. Their thinking makes as much sense as saying Nolan Ryan shouldn't be in the HOF because he made money playing baseball??? WOW The people that do the most for any sport or anything else for that matter, are the people that love what they are doing and the wiliness to help others learn. I have never met Mark but from the great things everyone has said he more then deserves to be in the HOF for a number of reasons. The fact he caught Ethel and gave her to help jump state the whole big bass craze should be enough but when you add all of the guides he has help and bass fishermen that he has help over the years should be more then enough. I am just making a suggestion that maybe y'all should get together, to try and change the rules for everyone so good people who deserve to be in the Texas Bass fishing HOF can be elected.

He gets my vote for sure.

Sounds like you need to work at changing the rules not submitting a bunch if forms if he doesn't qualify.

They are seriously saying that Lonnie Stanley, Ray Murski, Tommy Martin, Skeeter Boats and Nick Creme who are all Texas FFHOF members did not earn a living through fishing? Somehow Mark being a guide is different than the others I just listed profiting from fishing? Wow.


In addition to Mark I would like to think Larry Barnes would stand a chance to get in also. its sad if they do not change the rule. Makes no sense.

Long before I moved to Texas I was well aware of Texas fishing and Lake Fork Thanks to Mark and Ethel. If the TFFHOF feels neither of them has done alot to promote Texas fishing across the country they are blind to the facts. They made the rest of the world aware of the quality of fishing in Texas and helped make Lake Fork a destination for fishermen everywhere.

Ok, since this thread seems to be always close to the top, in no disrespect to Mark, what all has he done to be in this group other than catching Ethel? Should the guy who currently holds the lake record deserve to be in there also? I think he was crappie fishing. Again, don't knock my lights out because you think Im being disrespectful cause I'm not. I'm just asking a question.

If you have not already done so, I would encourage to read the article from the Tyler newspaper. The link is included in the 5th post of this thread. In my opinion, that article captures the heart of why Mr. Stevenson should be in the HOF, and it's not just that he was once the state record holder.

Sounds like TPWD has a hard on for Mark for making a small profit off of Ethel. I am sure they would have already inducted him had he let them keep her here in Texas on display.
