I'm fixing to upgrade my lanterns. Right now I use colemans with propane bottles for fuel. Thinking about going with the LED type. Any recomendations or comments? Thanks

Good luck roadtrip--
I'll be curious also--
I've kinda checked on this but haven't found anything that will replace my colman's--
But I want to if they can get bright enough without 18 D batteries-

I prefer the light from a Coleman but an LED won't set anything on fire .

The dang hissing sound is one of the things that bugs me. I prefer to hear the sounds of the night....

Well, if it's a sound you associate with camping then it can't be all bad.
The only time I use the lantern is in the morning before daylight to see to make coffee, and after dark maybe to read awhile or fish by. Once it's lit, you really can't see anything outside the circle of light.
It does make a nice "homey" scene from a distance though, like when returning from a nature call out in the woods.
