The old Red Top Cafe in Azle off of FM 730 near Veal Station closed down about 6 weeks ago and a new restaraunt opened up. This is the 5th restaraunt at that location since I moved out that way in 1998.
I tried to get my wife to go by with me and try it out, but she would not. I had read a review in the Weatherford Democrat a few weeks back that was praising it, so while my wife was out Christmas shopping I talked my youngest son into going wtih me and trying it out yesterday. The place was packed. We had to park in the back off of Flat Rock Road. Only the front part of the restaraunt was open and all the tables were full, so we had to wait about 5 minutes. The owner Shaggy apologized and said he'd give us some free appitizers. We'll we got some chicken flauta's for appitizers even though they were not on the appitizer menu. The chips and hot sauce were very good. The flautas were awesome. I had the beef fajitas and they were awesome. My son had their verson of beef street tacos. He wasn't impressed, but the overall result was a A-. There was no cheese on either one of our plates. Not sure why? The place was very limited in decor, as this kid is putting everything into the food. You'll recognize the Shaggy the Kid when you come in as he is an old employee of El Cerrito. One of my wifes favorite waiters, so I think I'll get her to go try it out with me. Hope this kid makes it.

Is it better than El Paseo?

It's as good! And a little closer for us out West. They don't have their liquor liscense yet, so you won't be able to get those awesome Margarita's that El Paseo has nor will you get that famous humor from Pancho.

It's hard to beat Pancho. I think he is the best waiter of all time. We moved away from Azle 8 years ago. I went back the El Paseo with my wife a while back and he asked about my kids by name.
