I had to go to the bank in Winnsboro Wednesday. Thought I'd run out to the barge for a while. NOT A BUMP. Talked to a couple of locals that saw my truck there & they said is has been very slow for the last month.
Just thought I'd give ya'll a heads up & save you some gas $.

They sunk swithcane all in there about six weeks ago. The fish left for some reason when they put it in there. They put it so thick you can barely get a hook in the water without getting hung up. They also went up on the price unless your one of the locals and you get to fish for free confused I will not be back!!!

The locals that came by said they pay $35 a month. 8 times $4 per visit would be a savings, but I only go to Winnsboro once a week & don't go to the barge that often, so I'll stick to the per visit. They were also catching them off the brush piles in deep water off the dam, but that shut down too. I think they migrated back to spawn, but they were pulling limits from there this time last year hmmm

The caretaker came in last time I fished after dark and there were six people fishing. Only I had put money in the honor box. The other guys said they paid to, the locals from winnsboro. You better wrap your money in a piece of paper with your name attached to it for reference in case you run into this problem if you fish after the marina/cafe is closed. I had already lost a half dozen crappie busters in the cane with no fish. I know thats fishing but being accused of not paying pizzed me off. I will not be back!!

The fishing this year stunk compared to last year!

I went a couple of times.

Fish are in skinny water!!!

I went there 2 times last year! Loved the fish I caught, good ones at that, 23 frist trip and 17 the second time. But after 04:00 if you're not a local it gets tough! BUT I DO LIKE THE PLACE!

They put up a new pay box system. There's a small envelop that you put your money that is numbered. Inside is a sticker with the same number you keep. I used to always pay with a check so that I wouldn't be accused of not paying, but the new system will work.
It's really a great place to fish when there on. I also miss the one that used to be on Lake Cypress Springs.

I used to catch lots of slabs out of the old barge at Lake Cypress Springs Marina. My mom worked there one summer at the marina. Boy does that bring back some childhood memories, slabs and bikinis thumb

Guys, I grew up and cut my teeth on this lake and the gentlemen who built this barge are outstanding men. With that said, they poured alot of money into this outstanding fishing barge. In early december some jackwagon stole all of the copper from the barge. Shortly after that someone cut all the trees loose and stole them also. With no brush someone with a good heart put the cane in there, they just over did it. Lots of people took advantage of the honor system so something had to change. Please don't take it out on those that are thinking of you the fisherman. They truly care and I hope you return to support it!

Fish for fish, I have caught more big crappie on that lake than any other. That said, I really like the barge there and support their efforts to manage it whole heartedly. ALSO!!! Go get a cheese burger and fry from the bait house!
