Has anybody heard how the new Talon stacks up against the Power Pole? Looking to get a shallow water anchoring system and am exploring all options.

Power pole is time tested but there is always room for improvements.

Just put the Talon on my boat. It's fast and quiet. Easy to put on the boat. I put it on in 25 minutes. Would be easy to remove and transfer to your next boat. Goes 8'4" from it's bottom which means about 8' of actual depth on my boat.

Only bad things so far is that it stays up above the motor about 6 inches. That's given by the design. Also you have to use the remote. There isn't anyway to have deck mounted switches.

Of course jury is still out on reliability.

So far I am pleased.

I've had the Power Pole (6 ft) on my boat for about a year now and it works flawlessly. I have a switch under the console plus two remotes. I always use the remote. I have been in strong wind and it holds very well. If waves move the boat up and down - it will have some movement whereas as I understand the MinnKota Talon will adjust for the movement. Talon is electric vs PP is hydraulic. Price, I believe is real similair for each model length. Nonetheless, I am happy with mine...but prob should have gone with the 8 footer, I'm not complaining though. All about choice, looks and features you want (price not so much since they are close). Check the boat shows for more info - they'll be glad to sway you... popcorn

I got my eye on the Talon for ease of install. No pumps, fluid or lines. I will have one come spring when times are better.

Can't speak for the Talon. But, I have a Power Pole XL (8'), that I really like, especially when the wind is blowing and I am trying to hold on fish.

Save some money and look up Stik It. Had a Ranger owner in a tourney in Fl last year that introduced me to it and swore by it. I bought one and agree. Not trying to be cheap, but for about $100.00 bucks, this thing works! again, just a thought.

Jersey Dan, that is the one! Again, it is cheap and has worked very well for me! Good luck...

How do you store thestickit when not in use? Does it breakdown, fold, etc.?

build one out of pvc and make it sectional. thread it together to use, then unscrew and store in a rod locker. under 20 bucks...

If fish spanker put his Talon on in twenty five minutes he must have been on a NASCAR pit crew. It took me 3 1/2 hours
including wiring in deployment alarm and routing/securing all wires. I havent used it on the water yet (frozen) but unit appears to be well engineered and user friendly. Sets up about a foot above my outboard (8ft unit) and I can see why they recommend mounting bracket high as possible on your transom. This reduces leverage during rough conditions, ideally you would want to have bracket midway on pole to balance load on mounting bracket. You would need a very high transom to achieve this, not your standard bass boat transom.

I fished with a friend that has twin Powerpoles on his boat the other day at Monty and I will tell you this. It is SWEET to be able to stop the boat in the wind and hold it at any angle while you fish.

Gotta get me a couple of them!
