When you are learning to fish a bait-caster put in inexpensive mono on it. Be prepared to get back lashes then cut out and learn to thumb. A longer rod with a soft tip would help. The majority of my rods 7foot or longer.

Agree Fork is the obvious choice. I think Ray Bob is a bit underrated. You can catch some decent fish there and dont have to compete as much for water.
